See lamp sing. Phenomenon whereby an incandescent lamp makes audible noise, due to the vibration of the tungsten cause by phase control dimmers. Large wattage lamps and PAR lamps are especially susceptible. Sinewave dimmers eliminate this unwanted behavior, but at significant monetary cost.
