Job Description
The Staff Carpenter works under the direction of the Shop Foreman and alongside fellow Staff Carpenters and Overhire Carpenters. The primary duty is the construction of scenery according to designs, including but not limited to woodwork, welding, rigging, plastics, basic painting, and any of the other techniques that may be called upon in this multi-disciplinary industry. The Staff Carpenter also participates in installation and removal on job locations.

This is a teamwork position; a successful candidate will be able to take and give direction and communicate effectively both up and down the hierarchy. In this entrepreneurial atmosphere, the PC/ATD is called upon to be self-starting and flexible, ready to do what it takes to help the company perform.

This position is a full-time non-union W-2 job with regular business hours. Occasional holidays and overtime may be required. Occasional travel is likely.

Pay is commensurate with experience. Paid time off is provided.

Requirements

1. High school diploma
2. Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre w/ scenery emphasis, and/or two years’ experience in professional scenery production
3. Valid Driver’s License
4. Thorough knowledge of the safe use of power and hand tools, and general best practices of shop safety
5. Strong skills in scenic carpentry and welding
6. Ability to work in a time-efficient manner
7. Ability to work both with limited supervision and in close collaboration
8. Ability to work both from detailed drafting and from less formal information
9. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and operations manuals
10. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English
11. Exemplary punctuality

1. Basic scenic painting
2. Basic stitching / fabric work
3. Entertainment Rigging
4. Basic electrics / electronics
5. Stage mechanics
6. Tool repair
7. Experience in a variety of production environments
8. Driving 24’ box truck and/or utility trailer and ability to meet FMCSA / DOT requirements for non-CDL driver qualification
