This forum is a great tool. Thanks to all involved.

We are building cityscape legs for a production. One set of the legs are 8'x20'....another set are 14'x18'. They are all odd shaped. Can muslin be wrapped over odd shaped flats and also have cut outs in the middle of them without having wrinkles? What are the disadvantages?
Thank you!

so the legs will be framed then covered ? If that is the case it should not be a problem to wrap and glue the muslin to the frame, large cutouts should also be framed. small cutouts can be done a few different ways. a simple cutout could have the edge folded and glued onto its back. complex cutouts may need additional support with a scenery netting glued onto the back of the muslin.

As far as wrapping and wrinkles are concerned, I might suggest looking at some Upholstery books to get an idea of how to make relief cuts, if you've never done that kind of work before. It's a pretty easy process of making slits in the material that are perpendicular to the edge you are following. Al ot of time cut and net drops are made from a much heavier material such as Canvas or a heavy weight Muslin or medium Weight Duck. These fabrics tend to hang a little better, and require less support in small areas.
