Smooth fade with Chroma Q Colorforce?

I am working on a dance production in which I am using Chroma Q's, Color Force, as a groundrow for the cyc. My question is this... How on earth do I get them to fade smoothly or even smoother than they currently are because right now they pretty much pop straight on no matter if the fade time is 3 seconds or 10... I am getting very frustrated as this ruins pieces that really need a nice even fade! We paid a lot of money to rent these fixtures and I have heard great things about how well they handle fades and color mixing etc etc. So far I have been very disappointed! I have them set to mode 5 if that helps. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this the price we must pay to incorporate LED gear? Any advice is much appreciated.

Mode 5 Sounds like your problem as it engages the internal FX engine on the 48 and 72. Which version are you actually using and with which console? I'd probably use modes 2-4 or 7-9 based on your purpose.
