Swing suspended from tree

I am creating a wagon with a child’s swing suspended from a three dimensional tree that an actor can sit on. The swing itself will not be functional. In fact, the two ropes holding up the swing may not actually attach to the tree. Any suggestions on how I can make the ropes self-standing and still capable of allowing the actor to hold on to the rope? I toyed with the idea of running a threaded pipe through the rope but fear that will ruin the rope in the process.

How close will the audience be? Perhaps you could just use a piece of EMT and paint it to look like rope?

The audience is 15+ feet away and the scenery is located behind a scrim so painted EMT would work in this situation. Thank you Marshall.
