Im getting a bunch of these to rehab and was wondering what the part that goes into the cabinet of the speaker to put it on a stand would be called. As these are designed to be installed but im planning on reusing them for live setups.

What are your guys thoughts on these speakers and rehabbing them and what would I need to make them portable. Im getting 5 for free.

Those in particular, I don't like a lot of JBL stuff but I have a special liking of the SRX line, Especially the 712 monitors which are unfortunately discontinued

I know that part as a top hat - it may be a location thing...

Yeah, in the US everyone would thing you were talking about one of these

Any opinions on this line of speakers? Im getting them free they're probably about 5 years old.

Im thinking of tossing in the pole mount and using them got events as I don't need them installed.

Alright so I got the units I was incorrect. They're MS28 and looks like I either need to repair the 8" subwoofers or find replacements which looks like JBL doesn't have that model of 8" anymore. Anyone have recommendations for replacement?

Also any good way other than visually to determine the integrity of the 8" woofer?

Woofers, not sub-woofers. What makes you think the woofers are dead? The only way to tell visually is damage to the cone or surround (the suspension on the outer edge of the cone). Run some sound through them. Better yet, run a sweep of sine wave tone from 20 Hz to 800 Hz. It should be free of buzzes and rattles.

As for replacing woofers, the cabinet is carefully tuned to the characteristics of them. The air mass, damping material, and porting are part of the system along with the woofers. Just throwing random drivers into a box will yield very unpredictable frequency response and power handling.

I correctly said woofers the second time messed up the first time.

Any who went through almost all had damage to the outer edge some had a grinding in the voice coil and also omhed out as open.

I understand the issue of finding the right one which is where my question comes in as it seems there's no JBL replacement any more. So maybe I'll have to get someone to rehab them

Got the pricing to re cone the woofers it's about $75 compared to $225 to buy new.
