1. Lighting. A vertical pipe or other means of mounting fixture(s) lower than they would normally hang. See boom.

2. A method of hanging an electric pipe below the normal house pipe. The pipe is usually shorter than the house pipe to allow the electric to be dropped down into a piece of scenery. In a complex variation, it might be hung between two house pipes at an angle other than straight on and off stage. The tail down is usually hung with chain. Requires careful coordination of counterweight and cable picks for proper installation. Not for novices.
