Also known as a zig-zag transformer. Presents a low impedance to harmonic currents and does not allow those harmonics to recirculate in the transformer primary, thus eliminating transformer heating from harmonics.

Also has high efficiency and very low no-load losses,

Useful for feeding phase control dimming systems.
