Horror stories/Murphy's Law mishaps

Hi everyone,
This is Jennifer Wilson with the marketing department at Wybron. I'm fairly new around here, so please be kind to a newbie :)

We're collecting horror stories involving lighting equipment -- times when Murphy's law definitely applied. I'm sure you all have tons of crazy stories to share, and we'd love to hear them. If you have a few minutes to spare, would you mind sharing your tales at Wybron, Inc. - Murphy's Law ? We're going to use the best stories in an article that talks about how feedback systems (RDM, ACN, etc) can help you predict problems before they happen.

Oh yeah, and five submitters will get $20 iTunes gift cards. :)

I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you!!! You can PM me here if you have any questions, or reach me at [email protected].

Thanks for reading!

Derek, good suggestion, thanks! I'll head over there. As for the free Nexera, I'd be happy to promise you one -- but there's a good possibility I might get fired if I did, so I won't :)

Wybron wants stories

Hi, I got this from another list. Obviously they want to hear equipment failures that they feel could be solved with new protocols.

"This is Jennifer Wilson with Wybron's marketing department.
We're working on a project collecting horror stories involving
lighting equipment. In the lighting industry I'm sure you're well-
acquainted with Murphy's Law -- whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.
And you've probably got tons of crazy stories. We want to hear them.
We're going to use the best stories in an article we're writing about
feedback systems (RDM, ACN, etc) and how they can prevent problems
before they happen.

To submit your stories, go to Wybron, Inc. - Murphy's Law. Five randomly
chosen submitters will each get a $20 iTunes gift card, so hopefully
that provides a little encouragement :)

Also, if you know anybody else with a good horror story, would you
mind sending them the link too? I'm trying to spread the word to
everyone possible in the lighting business.

Thanks for reading; I appreciate it! Feel free to contact me anytime
at [email protected]."

Re: Wybron wants stories

Whoops! I guess I have some catching up to do. :^)

Horror stories... how about buying than lamping a large amount of VL1K-A’s with HMI 575SEL lamps only to find out once in rehearsals that the fill pressure in the lamps is not sufficient to dependably work in the fixtures in strikeing an arc only after the show is already in rehearsals? Urr,... That was news in the same basic spec to all from manufacturer to tech... can one say a bunch of MSR 575HR’s flown in ASAP at great expense and to some extent I had to stop tinkering about with comparing lamp specs in providing lamps if at the last moment without testing?

On the other hand I have a lifetime supply of the above lamps for my Chroma Q Daylight PAR's that work perfectly fine with the lamp.

Can’t most often say horror stories like a Sting concert in Central Park a few years ago that got rain drenched and the after effects of Soco cable that got sub-merged under water sufficient that it infiltrated and shorted between conductors often spectactularly or even mention a brand of lamp box that’s more suspect able to mold than others. This or various lamp life reality studies amongst brands of lamps or fixture problems that are and cannot be public. Still working on such things amongst others in concept and specifics. Off line it’s industry person to person, beyond that not often public knowledge. Sorry but I can’t help in this.
