OK, so I've finally lucked into a few colour scrollers last year, and have a line on a good deal for 4 pin ends. What's the best cable to order to wire my own?

Is that what you would get? Is it worth the extra money over-and-above the middle of the road stuff?

Will these be permanently mounted or will they be moved around a lot? If they aren't going anywhere you could probably go with a lower grade of cable. If the cable's going to be moved around a lot or toured get the good stuff.

It's for a high school, so were looking at messing with it maybe three times a year or so.

Yes, but you are beating it to death when you are messing with it. I always buy the best cable I can because I know its not going to be coiled right and is going to be thrown around a lot. Not to mention how its going to be secured in the air...

As a rule- the cheaper the cable the less durable, but not always. Cable manufacturers can only do only so many things to cut costs while offering a product that performs well (or just adequately). Costs are affected by choice of jacket material, jacket thickness, degree of stiffness- even to the point of copper strands fracturing and breaking under stress, as well as other factors. Some cable has a strength member (often Kevlar or similar material) added for long life, others do not.

Have a look at the component specifics of your cable choices, and weight the benefits versus the costs. Mileage may vary-
