    Leviton D4DMX dimmer nightmares

I stumbled across this thread looking for technical documentation on one of these dimmers because I bought it used and like many other folks it had several shorted channels.I happen to own some really old NSI equipment and it is sad to see how they have 'cheapened' their product offering over...

    Generator Brand Question

Stay away from GENEJUNK!! I cannot say how much I hate those pieces of junk!! At the 10kW size you're in the low-end of generators, basically 'consumer' or 'home' grade units. Kohler is good, I would also highly recommend Baldor or Onan. 10kW is really small and you're likely in the...

    Control/Dimming Skimmers

Actually not all modern dimmers use SCR's or Triacs. IGBT's are becoming very popular. Using either RPC (reverse phase control) or sine wave dimming which is an electronic form of an autotransformer using chopping/PDM at a high frequency. ETC's Sensor is an example, if you look at their...

Basic Scanner Questions "MX 10 Extreme vs Technobeam"

I think the price of the Bolt is WAY overpriced. Yes it has an LED engine but heck it's even more than the price of a Technobeam when it first debuted. Yes, I know the Technobeam has been around for a long time and prices have gone up. But when you look at the other scanner offerings from other...

    Socapex and breakout resources

So is the length then based on the type of wire? I can't figure out the rationale... if we can have a 100 extension cord using SO, SJO, etc why couldn't you have a breakout with that same cable?

Is a Windows based console really a good thing?

Well I got to chime in as well, would I take my home computer and put a lighting console on it? Absolutely not, but I certainly use it regularly as an offline editor. However, would I take a stripped down copy of XP and put a lighting console on it? Absolutely, wouldn't think twice about it...

    Socapex and breakout resources

I'm curious about the breakouts cannot be longer than 20' code? I've seen staggered breakouts 30' to 40' in length for intelligent fixtures spaced out across a truss? What is the harm or danger in these?

    Bolting Truss Together

I have to concur, I would NEVER use an impact tool to bolt together truss. I have seen over-torqued bolts have to be snapped after a show to get the truss apart, always caused by someone over tightening.

    Build my own

A couple of quick comments, I've been around a few people that have built their own PA rigs, one guy I used to work with had about a dozen tops per side + subs for outdoor shows upwards of 1000 - 1500 people, it was a nice rig and had a very good sound, the only thing I noticed was it just...

Multiple Questions regarding sound/booth monitor/recording interface

I spent years as the lead tech at Edmond Memorial HS in Edmond Oklahoma, a very nice facility but horrible for audio. The booth was suspended from the roof about 1/2 between the back wall and the proscenium, 'security' was the concern, not technical operations. Ultimately, while not...

    Floor pocket requirements

One recommendation I have is make sure they're deep! I can't count the number of times where I've been in a building and the pocket was too shallow, the connectors stick up and get stepped on breaking the connector or the mounting plate. Make certain the pockets are deep enough that physical...

    Radio Signals in my System.

Also keep in mind it may be a cable that is the right length to be resonant at the frequency of the radio station you're receiving, basically acting like an antenna. Adding 25 - 50' of cable or removing 25 - 50' will change the length and therefore no longer act like a receiver. Another...

    Hum Issue...

That splitter uses resistors in it, it does not provide true transformer isolation so you still have an electrical connection between the video and sound systems allowing the ground loop to continue. You would be better off installing a DI box such as: Whirlwind / Direct Boxes

    pc help me!!

If you get desperate and must use the internal sound card (I highly discourage this as 'non-pro' PC soundcards have tons of noise in their output) look at purchasing an ART CleanBox to convert from consumer levels to pro/balanced levels Applied Research & Technology: ARTcessories™

    SDE-3000 Repair

True in most cases, but I've spent a lot of years working on electronic equipment and this does not appear to be failure due to another compoent. This just appears to be a resistor operating too close to it's maximum rating inside a space with poor airflow not allowing proper heat dissipation.
