Can you control Edison Bulbs through dimmers?

Hey guys, I'm Tech Directing Footloose this spring. I'm working on a light set-up that I think will work, but I want to get some input on it before I break anything. So, for one scene, our director wants regular Edison bulbs hanging down on a bar downstage at different heights. Think...

    Making it interesting

During last fall's performance of Anne of Green Gables, there was literally - 1 set change right at the beginning of the show, 1 (slightly big one)during intermission, 4 curtain openings/closings, and that was it. Our SM's script had writing on only one side of each page, so opposite the page...

    Blackout Lights

haha yeah, when we were doing 42nd street, the entire crew dressed up in 1930s worker clothes. It was actually a lot of fun. =D Everyone wore those caps, long sleeved white shirts, some people had overalls too. It was great fun. ^.^

    Blackout Lights

@ gafftaper We're using regular flashlights? I don't know, our school isn't very high-tech. I suppose cutting out something from a gel would work well, and save time, but i don't think our crew would ever think or that. Let alone our lights guy would never let our crew come at him with a...

    Blackout Lights

Our blackout lights, or "scene-change lights" are in the wings, so they don't really help much when onstage. In addition to those lights, we use flashlights decked out with painter's tape over the light, or a piece of tissure paper taped on.

Is it economically safe to pursue a career in technical theatre?

*nods* I live 45- 60 minutes by car or train from NYC right now, I go there fairly often. I was hoping I could stay in this town or one nearby and commute because I adore where I live now.

Is it economically safe to pursue a career in technical theatre?

My mom has been pestering me. She wants me to choose a path that will make me happy, but also pay the bills. She doesn't believe that technical theatre is the way to go. Is she right? Is backstage work really all that bad? I live in a very high class town, in connecticut actaully, and we do...

    crew night

Sometimes when we stay late we order pizza ^.^ Other than that we mainly just have a crew party at a local diner after the show on opening night, then we join the cast party on closing night. Its fun!

    Concession Stand

During intermission our school's Make-A-Wish Club runs the consession stand. They sell all the things you mentioned, but they also sell flowers. It'd probably be a good idea to sell flowers (something easy like carnations) as well, for those last-minute congratulations. ^.^
