    Help with Philips Strand Lighting

I would also check your cabling. Make sure that the DMX is making it to your dimmers. Could be an unplugged cable, something not working in the back room, etc. We use Vincent Lighting to support our theater on the other side of the state, and their guys are great!

Strand 300/500: Patching Channels to Faders

It's been a while since I used a 300 console, but from what I remember, 1 of the fader tiles can be assigned as 24 submasters. You can record whatever to it. The other tiles, I think, are setup slider 1 to channel 1, 2 to 2, etc. You could patch whatever address you want, say 500, to channel...

Better Ideas for Powering LEDs (ETC Element 250)

In our theater, we purchased constant power modules for our dimmer racks. We turn the breaker on and off on the module to switch the constant power on and off, but our dimmers are on the way from the booth to the door, not in some out of the way spot. It has worked well for us so far. No DMX or...

    Automated Fixtures Purchasing Moving Lights

We have some VL770's and are very happy with them so far. Been using 4 of them for a year now, just ordered 2 more this past week. Paid $7250 ea for them this time around. Plenty bright, nice colors, smooth movement.

    Moving Head Fixtures

We have a very similar sized theater, and have been very happy with the VL770's. They don't seem too noisy, and the fan noise they do have nobody has ever complained. Our projectors seem to be louder than the lights. If they are fired up before the audience comes in, it is just background...

    Motorola walkies...FCC license really necessary?

i am glad to see you are going the route for the license. In the long run, that is the best way to go and sounds like you are on the right path. If your school has any licensed frequencies, that would be a great way to go. With PL codes, you can limit who can hear what on the same frequency...

    Help identifying an architectural controller

That looks exactly like our Strand Premiere processor in our theater. The missing piece in ours is a plate with a 720k floppy drive in it, with the drive controls. Ours uses a off-board power supply to run the thing. We are hoping to replace ours soon, so I might have parts available. That...

    Curtain Pulling

I really like using bicycling gloves for that sort of stuff. The palms are usually padded, fit pretty tight, but do not go all the way to the finger tips.

    Conventional Fixtures C-Clampery

We use the wrenches linked to above, these: http://www.productionadvantageonline.com/Products/MCM.aspx They are great, light weight and small enough to get into anywhere with them. The larger longer ones are nice for leverage, but can be hard to maneuver around on a crowded baton.

Control/Dimming transfer show to another console

I think a pallet VL can export into an older pallet file version to work with the 520. ASCII should work too from what I understand. I am not in front of our VL though to test it myself. I recall a show in our facility wanting the exported files when we where done, and I think we where able...

    Help with non paying guests

To me, it sounds like a personnel problem you are trying to solve with technology. I don't have a good solution, other than try to focus on training the people at the gate. I think wrist bands are a pretty proven way to control things in that situation, but would still rely on the gate people...

HES Trackspot (v1) will not home

From what I see in the manual link posted above, start on page 3-10. There is an optical sensor watching for a small slit in the color wheel to indicate home. I have had lights (different manafacturer/type) that have needed a blast from some canned air to that type of optical sensor to get it...

    Mini Gobo

Thanks for the ideas. We ended up making an adapter out of some metal plate that we have around for making gobos. It works, but the image is really small. Should get me trough this event though. Still kinda wondering though what they might of been made for. They came to us in a Rosco...

    Mini Gobo

E sized are too large I think. These work out to about 13mm across. I am going to try and make an adapter for them. :-) That's my next step, since I just found out that they are for a show on Monday....

    Mini Gobo

We have a rental show coming in, and they dropped off their logo gobo's to our main office today. What office handed me are these little 1/2" or so across steel gobos that they claim places have used many times without a problem. I have no clue at all what to do with these. All I really have...
