It sounds like you are looking less for control and more for automation?Madrix is audio to lighting software with very advanced signal pattern analysis, and is under $600 (very cheap). I'd suggest try that out. To start with at least.

Tap Sync also will probably only work on Chases like on Congo. For some unkonwn reason you can't tap sync dynamic effects on Congo like you can on a Hog.

LEDs are, by physical nature, very directional. Often there's swappable lenses that will diffuse more, but yes you will have to use stronger frost or silk than you expect.

It's a Beta58 not Beta SM58, and the main difference is cardioid vs supercardioid, which will influence your monitors and monitor placement. From the sound of it you're not dual-monitoring vocalists, so there's little reason to go for a beta58
