First Time Caller, Long Time Listener

Good evening all! I have frequented Control Booth for a long time and finally decided to make myself a profile. My name is Patrick Baker and I am the Technical Director at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, Ga. I'll include a little bit about my journey to get here.

I loved tech theatre in high school, didn't go to college for it originally, then took some time off and worked, and then found myself back in college for tech theatre. I was lucky enough to have a truly amazing TD in college that pushed me to become a smarter and more well-rounded TD. I was offered the Master Carp job at the Springer shortly after graduating. In January our two man shop became a one man shop when our TD became incredibly ill and was out for two months. I wound up as TD for three shows this season including Sweeney Todd. And at the end of the season our TD and the Springer decided to part ways with one another, so I got promoted and here I am.

Don't get me wrong, I feel like I can do the job well, but I still have instances of self-doubt that I still have a lot to learn. But I think that's good. I think it's good to have a hunger for knowledge as a TD and knowing when to call in a professional or just ask questions to others more knowledgeable. Sorry for the length on this. Just wanted to put myself in perspective. Have a great one!
