An 8 way multicore cable has 8 wires inside the outer shell and then in those little wired are 3 smaller wires that you use to wire up an xlr conector? I think this is right, i have looked on google for this info but i cant find anywhere (i am awefull at finding info :() time to practis my soldring skills

That is correct. Just think of the individual wires of 3 as each being a separate microphone cable. Be sure to solder the shield to pin 1 of each XLR connector. As far as the other two wires, just be sure to solder the same at each end. If you solder BLACK to pin 3 of the MALE XLR, then solder it to pin 3 of the FEMALE XLR. Don't cross pins / wires. Make sure that it is the same at each end.

I'll follow up Derrick's advice with my own--use a cable tester or a multimeter to verify your connections when you're done. This will save you lots of trouble later on at a gig when things go bad.
