EPS Foam - AHJ Approved

My AHJ just signed off on letting us use EPS foam for the next production provided we have a couple coats of flame retarded latex paint on top of it. I find myself somewhat surprised; he said the sample I prepared for him prepared well in comparison to other ways I prepared additional EPS samples for him.

Have other people found that their AHJ's allow this material for scenic use? If so, can you provide any info on conditions by which you are (or are not) allowed to use it?

I have built some very large stuff using the foam and have never had a fire inspector have an issue with it. As long as it was not raw on stage, they did not care. I have been apart of sets that we rented and sets that we rented out that have the foam and have never heard of an issue. The way we worked was that nothing goes on the truck exposed and that tends to be enough.
