Mixers/Consoles Looking for a new mixer!

If you are looking for something REALLY versitile, then look at the Presonus Studio Live 16.4.2 - The list of features is:

* 16 Channels Mic/Line plus dedicated talk back
* 4 mono subs with direct out
* Digital FX on all channels - HP, Gate, Comp & semi paremetric EQ (5 band)
* 6 Aux out, 2 FX Return
* Balanced out (Sterio and Mono summed)
* Direct recording of all channels via firewire
* The ability to link 2 (recording) or 4 (live) to gether to give up to a 64.16.2 desk!

Price? $3900 Australian!

Not a bad buy, eh!

I would still go for a Yamaha 01v96

Things I don't like about the Presonus

Lack of moving faders, in a live situation this IMO can get frustrating and confusing

the GEQ is on the Mains out, most folks would prefer on the Monitor out and use a PEQ on the mains

A real nice board for the money but some of the attributes noted are misleading. When you link consoles there are several limitations. For example effects and FAT channels are always separate for each console and are not shared when linked, if you want the same effect available across two of the consoles you have to configure the effects on each console, they are not shared. Groups can be either four shared group buses or four independent groups per console, so you can have 8 or 16 groups but only by having four independent groups on each console, so it cannot be a 64x16x2 console as noted, it would be 64x4x2. You can paste channel setups and scene names across multiple consoles but the actual scene save and recall function is independent for each console.

The independent scene recall combined with how scene recall is established (the console shows you where the faders should be but you have to physically set them as they are not motorized) makes the scenes of very limited use in theatrical applications. Imagine having to recall a scene on each of four consoles, then manually move 64 faders to the positions the console identifies and then having to accept those changes on each console in order to actually trigger the scene change. Perhaps just fine in the studio or between bands, but a bit awkward in many theatre applications.
