New (not really) Rain effect with no H20

Just got back from Orlando and stumbled upon a very slick rain gag being done at Disney World. Will be PERFECT for rain that is seen outside of windows and doors on a set.

Monofilament line is strung from floor to ceiling (or out of sight line) on a slight angle. The number of lines and their position gives the depth to the rain effect. More lines equal a more consistant effect. A rotater with what looks like a medium breakup is then focused as a side light on the monofilament line. The rotater is moving so the effect is rotating toward the floor.

The break up on the monofilament looks like lines of rain falling. Very nice. Adjust speed of rotater for light rain, downpour, or deluge.

The movie Waiting for Guffman did that, except it looked like they had a fan blowing the monofilament back & forth, thus, in and out of the light. Great looking effect!
