NonRiggers Rigging

I was involved with a very good HS show recently, and have been for several years. I rig all their trusses, sound and video, all pro gear. When I went to loadout they had hung a sign that flew in and out. The HS kids went to pull it and I sent my son up to help them so there was no accidents. He was the other rigger, when he came down he said whoever rigged it should never touch a rope again. They had juryrigged some type of counterlever with unistrut and a bucket for counterweight.
I wish people that don't know anything about the dangers of flying things would leave them alone.

I walked in to a venue yesterday where I am designing lights for a show and discovered that some of their 15" mains are hung by knotted mic cables attached to the non-flyable speakers via crappy eyebolt screwed halfway into the cab and anchored over an HVAC duct.

For extra fun, "Like" J. R. Clancy on Facebook and look at all the "unique" photos in their "scary rigging photo of the week" album.
