Painting masking tape

Our high school crew normally uses painters tape or masking tape to cover seams between hard wall flats.
latex paint is applied over the luan and tape.
a lot of the available tape, regardless of cost, bubbles up on response to the moisture, calling attention to the seams.
Can anyone name a reasonably inexpensive tape that will take latex paint well?

I can't name any inexpensive tape, but I have used black gaff or duct tape. In both situations I paint it first with a base coat. Gaff works better since it doesn't have the glossy exterior, but duct will work if you layer on the base coat.

What "moisture" are we talking about? From the paint? When you apply the tape you need to make sure that the edges are pressed down so paint cannot get under the tape.
