I knew a few undergrads when I was in grad skool who did PRG internships at the shop in Los Angeles. They all found it really informative and taught them practical skills. With the deficit of labor in our industry an internship is very likely to roll into full time employment.

I did this in 2008 in the Vegas shop, happy to answer any questions about testing Mac 2ks and VL 3ks for days on end.

if you have an interest in doing it and some way to get housing at any depot I would strongly suggest going for it. The PI interns seemed to be onsite more than they were in the shop but the LX folks spent a fair bit of time coiling cable and the like.
