steel frame flats? Thoughts?

My jig idea didn't work. I don't think the jig material had enough rigidity. The top hole was perfect but the next hole was off-center for some reason. I'll wait for the dowel jig to show up tomorrow.

I decided (since my jig didn't work) that I would go ahead and weld them up and use the dowel jig to drill them later. I'm pretty confident I can get the holes straight with the height of the jig I'm using. The arbor is about 1.5" tall. The real ticket there is to slide my old jig piece on and accurately mark where they all go. I could also drill one frame and use a locating punch to transfer the holes to the other frames.

The welding went well today. I had Susan the wonder tech (volunteer) do some cutting and chamfer and prep the steel, so all I had to do was drop it in the jig, measure to be sure, and lay down some MIG puddles.
