USB/Midi interface through Obey 40

I'm a noob, just getting into DMX. I have a small rig for the band I'm in that plays mostly small stages.

I have the Chauvet Obey 40 I use as a controller, but want to start running software (likely on a Mac)

So, here's my noob question:
I have the Mac and use a Presonus Audiobox that has Midi in/out. Can I simply run Mac thru USB to Audiobox, Midi out to Obey 40 and control my lights this way?

I'm trying to keep costs down until I get better at it.

Any input would be great!

On most of the Chauvet units, the midi in triggers preset scenes. So, indirectly you can use it to bring up scenes you per-programed in the Chauvet, but it will not give you access to individual channels settings directly.
