    Color scroller advice

The forerunner is a very well respected color scroller.Wybron is no longer is business, but a group of its employees got together and started a new company to do a number of things, including continuing to service and sell parts for the forerunners. I don't recall the company name, [Edit by...

    Midi Curtain Contoller

The PLASA technical standards program has been approached several times about writing standards on how to do this, and has so far chosen to not. Even if it is only for monitoring, the potential liability of relying on anything other than a dedicated controller, on dedicated hardware run by a...

    Leaving Dimmers on always? Controller?

And regarding the arc flash, yes that is very scary. Not relevant here, bit very scary. And just to clarify terms, electrocution is death by electric shock: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/?title=ElectrocutionIf you are still alive, you got shocked, not electrocuted.

    Leaving Dimmers on always? Controller?

Leave the dimmers on and shut down the console. The difference is the... How do I say this kindly.... Somewhat consumer psu in the element.Yoy can leave it on all the time, but after 4 or 5 years if doing so that psu will EOL. Shutting it down every night will extend that considerably.I...

    Moving Light Recommendations

I have to agree with danTt. In that price range, it is very difficult to get a moving light. Even with 'value' in mind, in that price range you will be looking at heavily used or DJ products.Unless you have much experience as a moving light tech, repairing moving lights will likely be farmed...

    IP 60 Movers

As far as I know, SMG is the only one. And they aren't just IP60, they are IP65, which means it will prevent all solid particles as well as directed water ingress. They had a pretty elaborate setup at LDI, where they had water shooting into it while it was moving around. But as far as I...

Control/Dimming CD80 analog house light control

My recommendation is to contact your local dealer. You will likely need some bits and pieces to make this all work, and if your dealer is any good they will be happy to come out and take a look.Reading through all of the posts here, there is definitely something missing in this system layout...

    Altman Phoenix LED

Have you seen the 3000k version? It is not a RGBW/A fixture. It is all white. Brighter, better CRI, etc. If you search my post history, you will find one from 2011 where I say that I wouldn't use LEDs for frontlight because the CRI isn't good enough, makes skin look iky:"I wouldn't use...

    Altman Phoenix LED

Hey all, I'm glad that the word is out about this promotion that we are doing. While I'm not an 'official spokesperson' for DesignLab, I am an employee in the system sales department and have considerable experience with these fixtures. I don't think we are supposed to directly sell on these...

    Control/Dimming New ETC console family

Yes, this post says it all.As someone who has used both extensive, there are pros and cons to both lines. Once you are two weeks into both consoles, the Congo is hands down faster to do busking on. In my opinion, the screen layout is more flexible and easier to set just how you want them...

    Building a Lighting Console?

I would say the hardware component would be relatively easy. And you could very easily do it for under $100.The software component would be a different story....

    Control/Dimming ETC ThruPower, System Design

True. Well, the nodes will almost always be PoE, but you have a point with the rest of them.

    Control/Dimming ETC ThruPower, System Design

Distributed dimming has been around for a long time, and the ETC dimmer has the same drawbacks as all the others. Primarily, they are expensive.I suspect ETC intends those as an easy solution to putting a light far beyond the reach of an existing dimmer, such as in the lobby of a hotel.They...

    Control/Dimming ETC ThruPower, System Design

True. And if it is a new building and you can get some circuits run cheap by the EC that is great. But if it is retrofit, and you are running additional piping for those Edison circuits, or even worse, you need to install an additional panel to put those circuits in, that extra expense adds up.
