    DMX Rack or DMX Pack

As an installer and systems integrator I have dealt with this many times. The little shoe box dimmers are inexpensive and great for the club/DJ market. I even like them for the small community theater tour. I cannot recommend them in a professional or school theater application. They are not...

    LEX Powerstrip E-String

They have been on the market for some time now. Great for orchestra pits. Back stage to power quick change booths. I also use them in areas where I need to power a bunch of accessories. Such as an electric with a bunch of simple gobo rotators. Tack them to the wall in the shop. You will...

Long Term Portable Lighting System Use?

What to watch out for in temporary rigs? Keep the cable off any hot lights... Strain reliefs, it is cable and the weight will pull it and put strain on connections. Watch the sharp corners of beams and truss. It is not a terrible idea to re-seat connection occasionally to knock off any...

Long Term Portable Lighting System Use?

I get this question often. It all depends on local code and your inspector. What YOU call temporary may not be in some areas despite what NEC says. Now on the other side of the issue. Raceways vs Soco. I have seen and designed both. Many larger road houses need to be able to strip all the...

    Which Managed Switch?

The Pathway unit is a bit more than one you can buy a Cisco or Dell for. However it is specifically built for the entertainment world. It is much easier to manage for people versed in entertainment. You don't need to be an IT administrator to program it... I highly recommend looking into it.

    Black Light Help

Omnisistem UV lights are very cost effective and put out a lot of light. They lack the expensive filters on the Altman and Wildfire units that block the undesired wavelengths, but for DJ club lighting they work really well.

    Lighting a Wedding

Great advice and photos! The best part about lighting weddings is they are generally very well scripted. The best part of doing it in a theatre is you have lots of toys and places to put them! I just treat it like any other show. There is a theme and a direction. The wedding planner should...

    Dimmable CFL's that don't suck.

Why not LED? Ushio, Osram and Philips all make really nice LED lamps with great color temperatures that will also dim.If you still want CFL/cold cathode look at Ushio. They have dialed in the color temperatures quite well to 2700.The big problem with most "a-lamp" products currently is...

    Stage Haze

It is not recommended using haze fluid in a fogger. Unless it is a really cheap fogger you don't care about. You will probably damage the heater core.

Automated Fixtures Help me pick an LED striplight

The first thing I'll say is some thing I say to many of my customers. Just because it is not round does not mean it won't work like a PAR. Don't get hung-up on a "PAR shaped" light. I feel the ETC Selador gives you the most bang for the buck. Very bright. Take a look at their website for...
