DMXCat Control

Just picked up a DMXCat. Seems to live up to what i have read about it. BUT, I'm mainly a Mac user. And yes the iPhone app works as advertised, as far as I can tell, no RDM at home. What would be a good Android tablet to use? I bought a Digiland, but its not really the greatest POS. Will a Fire tablet do?

Thanks in advance.

I've been meaning to see if I can 'force' the app to install on my Fire tablet, but without rooting it, I'm not optimistic. Unless it's in Amazon's (very limited) app store, it's a total toss-up whether it'll work or not.
I'm not sure that you'll gain much (if anything) by using a tablet over a phone; remember that the fixture libraries aren't stored locally (except the ones that you 'favorite'), so you'd also need wifi access to use that part of the software. But any Android phone that meets the specs would work....you wouldn't even necessarily need to have a plan for it, if you have wifi available...

Sort of thought that would be the case. Don't REALLY want to get another phone(already have and am satisfied with the iPhone), but another tablet to let me see into the Android world would be cool.

Another reason Android is better...!

Although the ETC remote app is better on iPad I hear.....

Has anyone contacted City Theatrical to see if they will offer a Fire app?

The app is now on the Amazon app store as well so the Fire tablet will work great. But before you go getting that the only features that you wont get with the iPhone is the light meter and the wifi analyzer. Also a little confused about your description of no RDM at home. Does that mean it is not showing up as one of the programs in the app?

Marknak357,

If you are missing the RDM icon can you send a screenshot to [email protected] so we can get it fixed.

To build on Harrison's comments, Android phones will have the light meter only if they have the ambient light sensor built in.

We have been recommending the Amazon Fire Tablets for use with the DMXcat as they are inexpensive and available. The app has been available on the Amazon App store for several weeks now. The Amazon App is updated at the same time as the Android one, so there is no worry about delayed features.
