bad idea? i think not!

im gonna rig a sharpy tomorrow in a way i havent seen done before, its for a halloween special. its the only way i see it working since there is no grid, the set is small and most of all the look is needed! my idea is put an 18" pipe on the mega-claws of the sharpy, then attach a baby pipe clamp to the pipe, put it on a c-stand raised 8' and the arm out at a 45 degree angle. throw a couple sandbags on it and call it a day.

Keep in mind that the Sharpy is a moving load, so while it may only be 38 pounds, that's static. While moving you will have much more of a problem with the fixture not tipping the stand over. This just seems like a bad idea. There may be a reason why you haven't seen it done before. I'd suggest 2 stands with a pipe between them to support the weight of the fixture and provide stability. Sandbag both of them for stability.

I'll exchange you something static, like a leko, for said Sharpy, that way we're all winners, and no lights are broken. Happy Halloween!
