cleaning wireless mics

some of my packs or countryman mics are popping, glitching. Does anyone use electrical cleaner or alcohol to wipe the mic connector port or male end? I have them in condoms but have continual glitching from one actor. I have switched his mic and pack. The other problem is, we have SO many quick changes and mics get shuffled around.

I'd be willing to bet the problem is the connection where the mic cable attaches to the male connector, and not the male connector itself. This is the area most susceptible to fail if it is not cared for properly. I would approach this with a typical troubleshooting mentality. Try wiggling the mic's cable where it connects to the male end. If you're using one of countryman's earset mics (E6/E3), check where the cable connects to the earpiece. Wiggle the plastic casing of the male connector while it's plugged into the transmitter. Test and eliminate variables, and you can usually narrow down the problem to a specific component.

If it turns out to be a cable, replace it with the heavier style.
