Design Gobo Idea that needs some advice

I have a steel gobo with a companies logo on it. I wanted to color half the gobo with one gel and the other half with another gel. I had done this in the past and it worked but it doesn't appear to be working this time. The colors just blend on the gobo. Has anyone experimented with this technique? If so, what did you do to make it work?

Example:
Gobo:
JAMES | COMPANY

Gobo w/ Gels:
JAMES | COMPANY

A split gel in the gel frame slot is going to produce a blend, with some colour fringing but not 2 distinct colors.

To get 2 distinct colors you should consider using a colored glass gobo instead of a steel one, or maybe using an ImagePro and a plastic gobo, or maybe switching to an LED source and an Apollo PrintScenic gobo.

...
Gobo w/ Gels:
JAMES | COMPANY
Carefully cut the gobo in half using tinsnips. Put each half in two identical ERS fixtures located next to each other. Use the appropriate framing shutter to mask off the missing portion. Use a full cut of each color in each fixture.

Picked nit:
JAMES | COMPANY
is three colors. Do you want the | to be blue, amber, white, or not to display at all?
