Gypsy trick rifles and canes

Does anyone know of a supplier for the rifles and canes that shoot American flags in Gypsy? I have found several forums that suggest people 'just buy toy bang guns and switch out the bang flags for American flags.' Unfortunately, this is not an option for us as those are incredibly cheap little props that break easily and often. We are in the round and there will be audience as close as 10' from the stage so they need to look high quality. I plan to call the SFX house that built them for the revival, but it seems likely that they will be out of our price range.

I am also very interested in ideas people may have about how to build them as that could be an option for us.
