Concert percussionist since age 10, marching band in High School. Started college as a Math and Music Education Major, planning on being a Math Teacher who was also the Percussion Instructor. Dropped all 3 majors and had no idea where to go... Decided to try Tech work with Theatre Department. Talked to the TD who invited me to a work day that weekend. Spent 8 hours cutting steel on a pneumatically controlled band saw and fell in love. Within one week, was offered Sound position for "Phantom!" which was opening in less than a month. I told them I'd never seen a sound board before, let alone operated one. TD said, "Nobody else here has ever seen this board either because we're renting it to decide if we want to buy it." That's how I mixed my first show in 1996 on a Yamaha PM3500 with over 100 mute scenes that I developed and programmed, 12-14 wireless lavs, Instant Replay for FX, and a remote chorus set up.

After graduating in 1998 with a Comm Arts degree, I moved to Las Vegas where I've been in the business professionally since 1999. Worked for or at most of the larger casinos in Las Vegas at the same time as working for independent production companies including the Borgiest Borg of all. Worked for the second largest concert promoter in the U.S. for 2.5 years in Vegas and 2 years at a brand new venue in Ohio where I oversaw the final A/V install in the exclusive, members-only part of the venue. Short stints on a cruise ship and a broadway tour. Experience with Production Shows, Musicals, Concerts, and Corporate A/V. Mostly work in the Corporate A/V world. Currently, most of my work is in the convention center of one of the premiere casino/hotels on the Strip and I am looking forward to the opening of our newest property in Oct '09 where our department will be twice the size.

I think that's most of it. Hope nobody fell asleep...

Welcome to the booth coolone! I love your story of your first time running sound.

Get to know Derekleffew and Ruinexplorer. They are also Vegas pros... maybe at the competition. ;)

Check out the search function, there's a lot of great info in the archives. Most of all this place is a great community. Lots of young folks just starting out and a nice collection of old pros who know their stuff and like to give back to the community a little by hanging out here.
