Hey New Member Here

hey everyone, i just joined today and i would just like to know what this whole fourm is about. I am a high school student, who is the head of student lighting design and lighting operations. I typically build and work on 3 to 4 productions a year and a musical every other year. This year, i have completed a comedy improv show (in a black box theatre setting) a lower school pirate show and a elaborate high school show. I have designed the lighting for all of these shows. Right now i am also working on a paper for my production design and technology class and i need some help on the history of the intelligent lighting fixture. Thanks for everyone who replies and i am happy to be apart of the controlbooth web forum.

Welcome Bradley!

Since you asked what CB is all about, perhaps a re-iteration of our mission statement is appropriate:
To provide a venue for discussion, information exchange, and technical advice, related to technical theatre, in a casual and fun atmosphere that fosters friendships among its membership.

To answer your other question,
Most will point you to the Vari*lite in a bull-ring in Barcelona in 1981 for the band Genesis (see company history), but moving lights (try to resist the urge to call them "intelligent lights"--ain't nothing intelligent about them!) were around in some manner way before that.

Look in your local libraries for the book Automated Lighting by Richard Cadena, Focal Press, 2006, the most comprehensive book that exists on the topic.
