Here is the scheme that we used to construct 3-d trees for Into the Woods. The skeleton is wrapped in burlap that was colored with dye using a garden sprayer. ITW 3-d tree.jpg

Our design was fun. I don't think I have any photos, but we had two drops, and we used a sharkstooth scrim and a combination of painting and sewing to put trees onto them.

With two drops down, we could light them from behind to have a deep woods, or from behind one of them to show the middle of the woods, and we were also able to use them for intricate reveals of stagings. We did the show without any blackouts or curtain closes. It was all back and forth between the scrims. It was very fantastic...

At the end when Jack is ready to attack the giant, we used a scaffolding rig, which we rolled into place behind one scrim, locked down, and the actors climbed to then appear 'inside' the hole of the tree.

It was the neatest show, transition-wise, I've been a part of. I was just a lowly run-crew guy then.
I will have to look for photos...
