LED flickering when fading

I have an Altman Spectra Star PAR 100 that is misbehaving. Often when it fades it gets a sort of steppy flicker thing happening. It is really bad. There are 3 others in the rig that work fine. The unit's menu system is quite dreadful, but I am pretty sure I have the smoothing setting on and it is in 16bit. It is running off a hard line of DMX out of an ION and is possibly the first(?) unit in the daisy chain along with the other LEDs, a scroller PSU, and a hazer. There isn't a terminator, but this is not a reflection issue.

Any ideas of the cause/how to fix?

Thanks,

I had an LED PAR that seemed to behave similarly. Everything worked great (All colors) at 100%. When I would dim them, The color would start strobing. It got worse closer to 0%. Basically it seemed as if I could "see" the PWM choppiness.

My problem turned out to be a loose smoothing cap. Put some new solder on, has worked fine ever since.

Is yours behaving like this? or is your problem more of a steppy fade (not smooth like the others).
