Yikes! That could have easily been fatal. I wish we could have seen how it had been hung. From what we did see of the fixture, there wasn't any sign of any professional rigging connection on the fixture that I could see. That kid was really lucky.

Looks like a frayed rope.

Also looks like some hardware store lights and an extension cord. I am guessing they threw a rope over the bar joist and an extension cord. After who knows how many times the rope frayed and whoosh down it comes. Good thing (?) it was still on because those gym lights took a while to come back on.

Hopefully there will be more reports soon. Also, the school states they will be looking into the safety of their lighting.

And to clarify, this was in Madison, South Dakota, at a local wrestling event called "Madison Square Garden"

And I thought that video was from 1973 or something--crazy--how did they get that effect?

wierd, Looks like a quad-box mounted on the center of the 'fixture' But I onoy saw one line, the extension cord, or cable. I didn't see anything else that would have been holding it up...

Me neither, and this coming from a school who declined a free rigging inspection not too long ago... wonder what they'll do now.
