Control/Dimming MIDI control of Chauvet Obey 40

I bought a small DMX lighting setup for our band with the intent on controlling it through MIDI, which is used extensively in performance through computer software sequencing. The Chauvet controller can use MIDI note-on messages to select scenes, banks, and chases. We began experimenting last night, to no avail; when sent a command, the Obey 40 would select a bank/scene combo and switch immediately to blackout mode (MIDI note number 126). No other commands seem to be recognized. We have only 6 LED fixtures, and the DMX chain is properly terminated. MIDI runs through 2 keyboards, a vocal harmonizer, and the OBEY 40 (MIDI in/through routing). Sequencing is done on a laptop computer with a USB-MIDI adapter. Any suggestions?

Firstly, reset the console lets start from scratch. Turn it off, hold the "Bank Up" and "Auto/Del" buttons then turn on the console. This will reset the unit, set up the DMX adressing, for you 1:1 (DMX one to Bank 1 Fader 1 and so on) for more info Here is the Manual for your console in case you don't have it. Then here is a list of things to help get it to work.
  1. Bring up faders, if lights come up, that's a start. If not check your DMX adressing and that everthing is turned on.
  2. Hold down Program for 3 seconds.
  3. Bring up a look you like.
  4. Hit MIDI/Add to start to save, select a fader bank and a scene.
  5. Hold program for 3 seconds to exit.

Thats all your setup done, now use this table to control each
