A light that clips on the top of a music stand to allow the performer to read the music if the venue is dark. These are usually used in musical theatre for the pit orchestra when there is changeover or crossover music during a blackout.

    The most common version:

Uses a 25W or 40W tubular lamp. Regardless of wattage, is usually too bright, especially with an onstage band.

    See the thread http://www.controlbooth.com/forums/lighting-electrics/21499-gelled-music-stand-lights.html .

A good, but pricey, alternative, is the Littlite Music Stand Light, available in High Intensity or LED versions.
