is there a reason i cant see any threads in this section even though there are many according to the site?

You probably have your preferences (Default Thread Age Cut Off) set to "Show threads from last day" or similar. Go to User CP/Edit Options/Thread Display Options and it's the last of four items in the box. I recommend "Show All Threads."
