I work for a event lighting company and we both use and rent Midgets all the time with no problem, there a good spotlight.

Also, something I have used in theaters before is using a Source 4 with a 19, 10, 5 degree tube with a iris. Just plug it in to a dimmer and your good to go. Its a great low-cost alliterative to a true spotlight.

We have 2 Lycian Midget HP's (with a conversion from 575W to 1KW) and I have been very satisfied with them, and ditto on the telrad those things are the best. I wouldn't suggest running your spots dmx just because one of the best things with spots is that they are able to be run on the fly....board or dimmer rack gets dumped....you still have enough light to finnish that solo....dance director decides to make a preshow announcement on the apron and you have only curtain warmers...no problem. For the money Lycians are decent spots and they are almost idiot proof to run.
