Shure ULX-S vs. Sweat

I typically deal in lighting and carpentry and am not incredibly knowledgeable in sound. That being said, I have a problem. The Shure ULX-S being worn by an actor in a musical stopped transmitting a signal. We switched out the transmitter, kept the same mic element, and it still did not work. When we eventually switched out everything, we discovered a buildup on both the transmitter and the connector that we deduced was most likely due to sweat. While I wrapped mics in condoms at other theatres, we had not done it yet at the high school, but we will now. My question is if there is a safe and proper way to clean both the transmitter and the connector on the mic? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I bet high-concentration alcohol would also work, but it might make the plastic gummy. You'd want to pop out the circuit board from the plastic housing before treatment.
