So about these Atomic 3000's

There's a few different Ion profiles depending on how you're using the fixture. If memory serves, you can control the intensity, rate, and duration independently in normal operating mode. The lightning mode is something else, but I've also never used it.
 
You must put the Atomic in 4 Channel mode. Then if the ION doesn't have the 4 Ch. mode option I would recommend building a custom profile by copying the stock one and adding a 4th channel to it with the break down as per the manual.

Don't patch it as fixture but as 4 individual dimmers and then program the dimmers based on the manuals specs. for a Lightning effect program as follows:

1 @ FL
2 @ FL
3 @ 0
4 @ 67-84 (try different values for varied FX).

I've used these in lighting mode for some various effects before and have always built a custom profile.
