Stopping and restarting effect ion xe20

Is there a way to stop and restart an effect on an ion xe 20 without programming it as cue? Director want chase to stop and restart( kind of like freeze frame) when certain characters are delivering dialogue.

Several ways. Select channels, effect xx, enter. Hit effect again it stops. Or sneek enter. Or Put it on submaster. or make macro. or .......
However based on a freeze frame, I'd program it as the next cue time 0. Then use the go and back to freeze and unfreeze. Double bump go to skip past the fx cue if you need to.

Or set up a pair of macros to start/stop the effect. Make a pair of buttons on a magic sheet to fire the macro

I'd use an effect sub. Set one of the bump buttons to start and stop the effect. Note that the start and stop settings on the effect will make a big difference.
