I am looking for any helpful techniques to help make an actor seem larger on stage. I figure if I uplight him from each side, that should help. I am doing To Kill a Mockingbird and the director wants Boo to seem larger than life when he comes to the door.
Our company in the UK recently provided lighting to create this effect, it can sometime be difficult as directors can be fussy! In then end we helped him with is idea. We supplied a custom sized white (seamless) canvascyc as the backdrop and set a few 4 way Hui in front of the actor, his shadow boomed across the cyc. It was a good effect to show that the character was large. Its not to make the character physically large but it gives the impression. I hope this helps.
