5.1 Edit room monitoring/control

Hello all,

I am trying to find an cost effective solution.
I'm hoping you can help me.
We are building into a new facility, and want to add 5.1 (maybe 7.1) surround monitoring to our edit suites.

We currently have 4 main edit suites all broadcast grade.
I am trying to find a good solution for bringing 5.1 audio from the machine room (where the edit system CPU will be housed) to the edit room with the clients and operator.
The room operator should have volume control over the system.
We also would like to explore the ability for the client to watch Blu-rays in the edit room and have that audio routed into the local room control.

What recommendations can you give to solve this?
(nothing fancy - just monitor control really).

Thank you for your time!

Neil

Is this suite strickly for broadcast or is it also to be used for Dolby Digital encoding and distribution?

If the goal is to create a mixing suite for DD encoding and distribution, hold on to your hat. The requirements levied by Dolby for DD encoding are pretty extreme.

The following link provides a pretty good explanation.

However, if your 5.1 mixing and encoding is being done elsewhere, and all you want to do is monitor and not mix, then there are many turn-key 5.1 monitoring solutions available, and control (volume) is easily integrated.
