1. A popular line of dimmer racks and dimmer packs, introduced first by Strand-Century in 1979, and later by Strand Lighting until 2009.
Installation racks have three iterations (dates approximate):
1979-1986: CD80 Original, AMX only, used TA4 data connector
1986-1992: CD80 AE (Advanced Electronics), AMX (XLR4) or DMX (XLR5)
1992-2009: CD80 SV (Supervisor), primarily DMX, although AMX still supported
Dimmer modules for Original and AE racks are compatible with each other, but not with SV racks. Dimmer packs did not use removable dimmer modules (unlike competitors Colortran D192 & ENR, LMI L86, and ETC Sensor packs). Control cards are not compatible between racks and packs.
Some troubleshooting/repair documents for the original CD80 pack control modules:
2. The control protocol used by the original 1979 Light Palette and Mantrix consoles and CD80 dimmers, which with some alterations, in 1985 become USITT AMX-192 Analog Multiple standard.
