Connecting EOS fader wing

Is there a way to connect a 40 Eos Fader wing to the ETC Ion XE? I am concerned with the screens staying on all the time. I know connecting the two units fixed this with the legacy ion. Wasnt sure if there was a setting.

If you mean physically attaching (bolting) the fader wing to the Xe, no. You can connect via USB and just unplug the power connector at the end of the night so the fader wing doesn't stay on all the time. That's what we do.

I think on the new wings they will power down when they sense the console is off.

“It depends. Some universal fader wings (legacy) have circuitry that detects when the console shuts off, and they will shut off at the same time. Older generations of the universal fader wings do not. It is possible to upgrade them to have it. This is also related to the Windows 7 upgrade, as that's when we added it.

Easiest way to tell if it has the newer power detecting hardware is if the USB port on the wing is orange. Orange = new, Black = old.

I wonder if that is where Netflix got the title of their hit show?

The general consensus on the FB Eos page was the new Ion XE does not provide to power down the wings. My older Win 7 with new wings does power down.
