Design Controlling arrays of LED Pixels

Has anyone used SanDevices E682 with an ETC Ion/Gio/Eos? The device accepts Streaming ACN v1.31, and ETC Net 3 is based on ACN.

I'm working on a design for a show and I'm looking at using a fairly large amount of digital LED strips. (To see the LED Strip, look here: LED Light Strip Demo - Dream Color - 5050 - RGB - 150LED - 6803 Chip - 94 Programs - YouTube)
The E682 is a LED pixel controller that outputs an digital signal that the LED strip can use to control each LED individually. There are DMX controlled alternatives for controlling the LED's but the E682 is a very clean solution that is also the most economical.

The Eos family have their own pixel mapping software built in. Not sure what the advantage of this other product would be.

Using the pixel mapping software provided by ETC is part of the plan. I just can't figure out if the E682 will communicate with Eos line. So the E682 is really nothing more than a power source and a signal converter for the LED's. All of the control would be performed by an EOS.

Oh. So the fixture you are using doesn't take DMX/ACN? Is that the point?

Yes, the strip is controlled over a signal called Serial Peripheral Interface, or SPI. Which of course is not even remotely similar to DMX in any way. So the E682 is essentially a converter box, which takes in ACN and converts it to SPI.

It would appear in the ETC manuals etc. it defines net3 as E1.31 ACN. E1.31 is what is normally annotated as sACN. ACN as a desk output is generally sACN. Chamsys consoles output sACN when the output node is ACN.

Having built Artnet and sACN endpoints for SPI based 2801 strip, you should be fine, and the internal pixelmapper is exactly the tool to use unless you have a media server spare.
