Design How to Create the Appearance of Humidity via Lighting Design?

To make scenes look humid, J. Michael Gilette recommends using saturated colors for the foreground and less saturated colors on the background. Have any of you tried this, or do you have any other techniques?

If you use a small amount of haze you may be able to make it seem humid. I would also suggest using diffusion, sharp edges will counter the effect.
