Lightning

I did lightning once with a combination of a strobe that was rigged to fire from a pushbutton (it was a Genrad strobotach from the science dept) and a couple of lightning gobos. Followed by a quick repatch since I only had 12 dimmers to work with

I just had this request yesterday. I had scheduled an old dataflash, but my controller gave me problems at the last minute. Conclusion: I use a couple technobeams that worked amazing. Way better than what we could have done with a couple of strobes. Matched w/ a technobeam controller, I used different random strobe settings with a dozen different positions for 10 minutes of lightning required for an entire act. At no point does it look repeated. The downside? I think I'm getting around $10/day for each technobeam.

I have seen some fast and random chases done with both pars and cyc lights that looked convincingly like lighting. Put some R60 in a few spare lights, program a random chase, and you're set.
